The Cogs - SaraFunnyweather

The Cogs

Your main purpose in Toontown is to make it a safe place for toons by clearing the world from  the Cogs that have invaded the world. Cogs are serious robots that dislike fun and games and who try to make the world grey and boring. There are 4 main categories of cogs that you will encounter: Bossbots, Lawbots, Cashbots and Sellbots.

In your travels around Toontown you will find cogs roaming the streets and slowly taking over buildings from the shopkeepers turning them into giant grey business complexes, removing the colorful pretty world that toons love. The cogs have established headquarters for themselves in different parts of the Toon world. So far, we have found headquarters for lawbots, cashbots and sellbots and rumour has it that the cogs are working on a headquarters for the bossbots too!

To get rid of the cogs you can help by battling the cogs on the streets, taking back invaded shops or adventuring into the cogs headquarters and free the toons that have been captured by the cogs. However you should consider your own strength before going in alone. Teamwork is the key to success and you should bring some toons along when you venture into a building or headquarters.

As you start the game you will probably do most of your battles in the streets. In Toontown Central, the first playground, cogs generally don't take over buildings as often as in other parts of the world. When traveling through the streets you will see plenty of cogs walking around. By walking up to a cog you can engage it into battle. If you wish to move safely around the world you can stay on the sidewalks while running down the streets - cogs will not attack toons on a sidewalk!

The Cog Radar

To help you in tracking down a specific cog or building there is a Cog Radar in your Shticker book. You have to earn access to this radar by battling a specific number of cogs of each type though. When you first start the game your Cog Gallery page will be empty, but as you encounter new types it will start to fill.

The first part of the cog radar will allow you to search for a specific cog on the streets. To get this radar you have a target number under each type of cog in your Shticker book. When you have reached this target you will get a new target number which will gain you access to the second part of the cog radar. This allows you to search for a specific building on each street.

Taking over buildings

Cogs will every so often take over a shopkeeper's building in their attempt to invade Toontown. You might receive a mission from headquarters to free a certain amount of these buildings again. All buildings that have been taken over can easily be recognized, since they aren't as colorful as the normal buildings. But you can also determine what kind of cogs have taken it over by looking at the elevator. You can also see how high the building is by looking over the elevator door to the building. A higher building means you will be facing more cogs than in a lower building. To free the building again you simply walk into the elevator and go inside with the goal to reach the top floor of the building and kill all the cogs inside. A maximum of 4 toons can go on the elevator together. Keep in mind that if you go sad before you have killed all the cogs inside you won't get any credit for any of the cogs you killed inside. You also won't get any credit if you decide to teleport out of the building before winning the final battle. So if you have weak gags or little laff points you should consider waiting for some other toons to go with you so that you can help each other through.

Cooperation is the key towards success in Toontown. Many times you will see other toons standing outside a building waiting for someone to come along to help them. Sometimes this toon is really only waiting for some of his friends to teleport to him so you should always ask if they need help before rushing onto the elevator. But most of the time a toon will be happy to see you so never be afraid to ask!

Where to find a specific cog

Finding a certain cog takes a little more than just running into any street in Toontown. Certain cogs can only be found on certain streets or inside buildings. To find the top two of each cog type you should look inside buildings. The only times you can find Corporate Raiders, Big Cheeses, Legal Eagles, Big Wigs, Loan Sharks, Robber Barons, Minglers and Mr. Hollywoods on the street is when an invasion specifically calls for them.

Every street has a specific balance of what types of cogs there are and what level these cogs are. And every street also has a maximum building size. Below is a table you can use when searching for specific cogs.

A closer look at the Cogs

Although the cogs don't like to admit it - they have a few things in common with us toons. Just like us, they have a set amount of hit points depending on their level, their attack doesn't always hit and some of them have group attack weapons. Like us, the cogs depend on each other and are much harder to beat when they work together. Luckily for us they don't have any lure weapons, though! Also the cogs don't get any bonus for using the same method of attack.

Depending on what type of cog you are dealing with, they will have different weapons to use against you. Below you will find a list of the common weapons and how much damage they do to your toon.
