Racing - Hile

Racing: Getting Started

So you think you're pretty fast? Well head on down to Goofy Speedway!  Once you've passed the Toontorial, you can start racing at any time whether you're a low laff or high laff toon.  It doesn't matter!

You can get to Goofy Speedway from the Toontown Central.  Once you've entered the first time, you automatically gain teleport access to the Speedway.

Go thru the tire and you end up in front of the Kart Shop.  Go inside to buy a kart.

Inside the shop, four grease monkey clerks patiently wait to sell you all the racing gear you could ever want.  Go up to one.  Don't be afraid, these monkeys have been strictly trained to attend to your needs and will not harm you.

All you can do at this point is buy a kart.  So click the button.

Click on the arrows to go through the car selections.  The Left and Right buttons rotate the car.

You start out with just 200 tickets.  Tickets can only be used at the grease monkey shop and as a deposit for racing. You earn more tickets from racing.

All you can afford is the cruiser. So just buy it.

Note: ALL the kart perform exactly the same. Some people have the perception the roadster has better speed and the TUV has better handling. Don't believe it.  Your plain cruiser is just as good as a roadster decked out with the most expensive accessories.

Now that you have a kart, you can shop for accessories.  You only have 100 tickets and you'll need it for the track deposit to race so don't buy any yet. But for the sake of curiosity, take a look.

From this menu, you can browse through all the accessories.  There are various types.  Click on one of the icon buttons to choose a set of accessories.  Then use the arrow buttons to go through them all.

Hood ornaments

Rear spoilers

Front fender, horns, sidepipes, and sideboards

Rear fender, tailpipes, fins, and mudflaps

Hubcaps/Wheels

Decals

Colors

You can only have one of each accessory type on your kart at any time.  They can not be sold back once bought, but can be deleted.  If you buy another kart, you won't lose the accessories you already bought.  You can put them on the new kart.

You're ready to race now! Exit the shop through the opposite door and head to the racing area.

You'll see the leaderboard in the middle displaying the fastest times on each track in the district.  If you make the leader board, you can earn bonus tickets!

Daily - 10 tickets
Weekly - 100 tickets
All-Time - 1000 tickets

Around the edges are all the starting gates.  There are 3 track types each with 4 separate gates.  Watch the sign above the portal to know what track is being offered.  The sign changes between all the tracks in that type until one toon steps into one of the four car ports in front of the entryway. Other toons are given 30 seconds to join the race.

The two on the left are just for practice.  It costs no tickets to enter and you can race alone.  However, there are no racing gags on the track and you only get 20 tickets if you make the qualify time no matter how you finish.  Racing here also doesn't count toward trophies, which we'll get into later.

The two on the right is for battle racing.  You need at least two racers.  There is a ticket deposit to enter the race.  Don't worry! You get the tickets back if you beat the qualifying time and the allowance is very generous.

First Race

Let's do a practice race on one of the Stadium Tracks first to get used to driving.  Just walk up to one of the car ports in front of a practice gate.  Your toon will drop his kart and hop into it.  After a few seconds waiting time, he'll drive into the gate.

Once you load this is what you'll see.  It likes to get started quick so be ready! 3,2,1,GO!

You control the car with your arrow keys on the keyboard.

Up - accelerate
Down - brake
Left - turn left
Right - turn right
Ctrl - use gag (not used for practice racing)

Here's how the screen looks as you race.

The top bar shows your progress along the race and shows your lap times.

The upper right corner shows a track map and where you and the other racers are on the track.  The dot will be the color of the toon's kart.  Below that it shows you what lap you're on.

The lower right corner shows your kart speed.

The lower left corner shows what gag, if any, you are holding and your position in the race.

Somewhere on the track are 3 red triangles. Be sure to touch these with your kart to get a generous speed boost.  It takes a second for the acceleration to start.  Once you hear the roar, you'll quickly begin to accelerate.

Once you finish you'll see your time and how many tickets you earned.  Click the red button to leave the track and head back to the Speedway.

You're now well on your way to racing glory!

Pit Row

Located just outside the kart shop are stands where you can show off your kart to other toons. Just walk up to one.

Schticker Book

You can check your progress and modify your kart in the kart section of your schticker book.

Click the customize tab to add or remove any of the accessories you have purchased.

Click the records tab to view your record times on each track.

Click the Trophy tab to see your trophy case.

These are the ultimate goal in racing.  You can earn up to 30 trophies.  For every 10 trophies you earn, you gain a laff point trophy for one laff point.  You must do battle races to earn trophies.

Race Gags

In a battle race, you'll find a group of four presents on the track.  Run over a present to get a race gag. You can only carry one gag at a time.  When and where you use a gag wisely can help you greatly during the race.

There are four gags you can use.  To use a gag, press the Ctrl button on your keyboard.

Banana Peel

When you use this gag, a banana peel is left on the track.  If an unsuspecting racer runs into it, his kart spins out and slows way down.  You can put these in very devious and strategic spots, but remember if no one hits it you have a chance of hitting your OWN banana peel on the next lap!

Pie

When you use it, you will throw a pie out to a kart in front of you.  If you hit, it will smear the window shield of the toon's kart making it tough to see!

Speed Boost

This acts just like the speed boost that's on the track, but you get to use it when you want to use it!  Best not to use it when approaching a corner.

Anvil

This is arguably the most powerful gag and can dramatically change the outcome of a race if timed right.  Using this gag drops an anvil on the toon in the first place that isn't anviled already.  The toon's kart comes to a complete stop.

Tournament Races

Every Monday is tourney day.  Instead of entering a race, you enter a circuit.  Each Circuit will consist of three consecutive races:

Circuit One: City Circuit, Screwball Stadium, Rustic Raceway
Circuit Two:
Blizzard Boulevard, Corkscrew Coliseum, Airborne Acres

Points are awarded after each race. The toon with the most points at the end of the three races wins the tourney.  The deposit for a tourney race is large and the winnings even larger!

Tourney races only count toward tourney trophies.
